Have you ever discovered something that made you realize your life is a lie?

Sometimes we're behind the 8-ball. We don't know which way is up, and that's okay. Sometimes life comes around and makes a fool out of us. It's part of the natural order of things. We're not always going to be right. It would be weird if we were. If we were running around town being right about stuff, then when would we ever learn? The quickest way to learn something is through failure. It's the whole point of childhood. You run around, ignorant of the world and its ways, until life comes around to teach you something. But sometimes those lessons in failure come a lot later in life than we're expecting. And sometimes they come from the strangest places. That's what happened to the person in this story, who shared their unexpected life lesson on the Mildly Infuriating subreddit.

  • Discovered my central air was a social construct...

    So I just learned I've been living in a place with absolutely no central air conditioning. Not "I assumed it might be central air." Not "I wasn't sure how it worked." I mean I fully, confidently, emotionally lived my life under the assumption that cool air was being distributed through vents like a normal adult homeowner situation.

  • Sometimes our assumptions get the better of us. We think we know certain things, so we proceed as we do. The person in this story assumed that they had central air conditioning. Maybe you're thinking, “That's not something you should assume." And you might be right. But we all have moments where we surprise ourselves with our lack of knowledge of our surroundings. But we don't expect things to fully fall through the cracks. But that's what happened here, and this person didn't have a lot of grace for themselves.
